5 Mindsets in design thinking to design a better life!

Design thinking involves certain mindsets. These mindsets seem to be simple. But they can solve many complicated problems in your life. Therefore from design thinking, you can understand how to use them to do life design.

The five mindsets that you are going to use are,

  • Curiosity
  • Bias-to-action
  • Reframing
  • Awareness
  • Radical collaboration

These are your design tools and with them, you can build anything, including a life you love.

1. Be curious:

Curiosity makes everything new. It invites exploration. It makes everything play. Most of all curiosity is going to help you “get going at being lucky”. It is the reason some people see opportunities everywhere.

2. Bias to action:

When you try stuff, you build your way forward. There is no sitting somewhere and thinking about what you are going to do. But there is only getting in the game. Designers try things. They test things out, create many prototypes and fail often until they find what works and what solves the problem. They are not attached to a particular result because they are always curious about what next than the end result.

3.Reframe problems:

Designers unstuck by reframing problems. Reframing also makes sure that we are working on the right problem. Life design involves key reframes that allows you to step back, examine your biases and open up new solution spaces. We need to reframe the dysfunctional beliefs that exist in society. reframing is essential in finding the right problem and the right solution.

4. Awareness:

For every step forward, it can sometimes seem you are moving two steps back. Mistakes will be made, prototypes may fail. An important part of the process is letting go of the first idea and of a good but not great solution. Sometimes amazing designs come from the mess. Teflon was created in this way. Super glue and play doh too. When you learn to think like a designer you are aware of the process. Life design is a journey, let go of the end result and focus on the process and see what happens next.

5. Radical collaboration:

The last mindset of design thinking and also the most important one is radical collaboration. What it means is, you are not alone. Designers know that great design requires radical collaboration. Your phone is one such example, it is a great design than artwork. It cant be created alone. When you reach out to the world, the world will reach right back. All design is like a team sport in life design.
