According to Andrew E. Monroe, they realized that most of the arguments provided were not about facts, but rather about opposing moral beliefs. This is after the decision of the Supreme court that affirms the marriage equality and the discussion about bathroom right for LGBT people.  Andrew E. Monroe is the Ph.D. of Appalachian State University and lead author of the study published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General.

Sanctity means strict compliance with purity rules and disgust over any acts/activities which are considered to be immoral or morally contaminating. People who prioritized sanctity, were less rational, more impulsive making them less human. This attitude results in more prejudice and discrimination.

On the other hand, those people who practice and prioritize care over sanctity were more likely to show and give compassion to people who are subject to discrimination. Caring people also support public policies which help those population.

How it Affects Sanctity

This means that certain morals believed and practiced by people affect their judgment towards others. Sanctity, for example, leads people to view others as less human. This results in prejudice and discrimination. These moral values can affect your belief and attitude towards people who are commonly the subject of discrimination. These people are the gays, lesbians, transgenders, bisexual, obese, dark people, and people with AIDS.

Discrimination shouldn’t be practiced because we have different beliefs and values. We should respect one’s values, as long as these values and beliefs don’t cause any harm for anyone. What we should practice more are care and compassion. We should also understand that racial equality and gender equality is important for us to have peace – peace of mind and world peace. Care and compassion are also ingredients in attaining peace and unity. Let’s practice motivation and love, not discrimination and hate.

How do your moral values affect your belief and attitude towards people, most especially those that are a common subject of discrimination? How do you view the gays and transgenders?
